1. Bring in a large 'soup cauldron' to the class with 20- 30 plastic bags with different grains, toy vegetables, beans etc.
2. Bring in empty bottles of water, large spoon, apron and boufant for the soup maker.
3. Bring salt shaker, pepper grinder.
4. Distribute the vegetables, grains, beans, salt and pepper to the children.
5. Give them the option of pretending to be family members, sisters, brothers, mom and daughter.
6. One person in class is appointed to be the Story Teller.
7. This enactment is to be done while the Soup Stone story is being told. Stop the story at suitable points and enact with the class.
8. The grain plastic bags can be dropped directly into the cauldron without opening becasue 4 year olds have an incredible capacity to imagine that the grain was actually added to the soup.
9. Be sure to let the children 'pretend drink' the soup in the end for thats the part they really enjoy.
