This is an activity to help the children develop the ability to sit quietly for a short period of time.
1. This activity is to be performed in each class.
2. The children sit in a circle.
3. One of the teachers sings a soothing bhajan. Alternately a song is played on a CD or other device.
4. In the first few classes in the year, we have found that the song quietens tears which are to be expected for a child having separation anxiety.
5. As the children become comfortable in the class, gently prompt them to sit without moving much.
6. Around mid year, when most children are fully comfortable in the class, ask the confident children to close their eyes during the song. However, please do not enforce closing eyes.
